Pictures from 2005 TSM May Launch - Maple Island

The May 2005 TSM launch was a great day out in the rocketry fields of Maple Island - in spite of threatening skies. Once our waiver opened, Viv was ready to try tossing a bird up into the morning sky to return to earth via dual deployment. Although our intrepid flyer was a tad nervous, it was a great flight and everything worked as planned. Richard launched his Aurora for a great flight and later in the afternoon he also flung the Raven into the air at a ridiculous speed, He claimed it was below Mach... did he mean below Mach 2?? Andy rebuilt Murray - you remember Murray from last season, when a terrible mid-flight disaster left Murray raining down on Maple Island in pieces. Luckily most of Murray made it back to the shop and he finally took to the sky for a wonderful flight. Resident Rocket Grill maven Judy served 'Rock-mo-dyne' dogs at lunch to inaugurate the new generator. Thanks again to everyone that donated funds to make our generator possible. Warren sent a great looking scratch built Mercury Redstone skyward, and it made it back to earth safely after a slightly early deployment. 'Nutin' like scratch built NASA rockets! Mitch, new to the fields of Maple Island, was inducted to the uncertainties of rocket flight with the closest to pad award as his rocket blew the nozzle and gave a nice fireworks display. We hope to see Mitch back to set the record straight. A Patriot that looked a little seasoned in flight took off from the big rail on a K550, just making the thrust to weight guidelines at 21 pounds. Pete took his big green bomb out to the rail and heaved the massive beast into the air on an L motor. Gordon had a very showy rocket with polka dots that was on the last rack of the day, before we had to close down due to approaching rain. These were just a few of the highlights - thanks to everyone that helped with setup and cleanup to make our May launch a success!
